The stack most households end up with

Almost nobody sets out to pay for six subscriptions. It happens one at a time: a live-TV package for sport, one streaming app for a series, another for the kids, a third because a film was only there.

What the same money buys as one subscription

A 12-month IPTV subscription at $99.99 works out at $8.33 a month. Against the stack above, that is a difference of about $2,221 over a year — roughly the price of a decent television, every year, for something you were already paying for.

It is worth being precise about what this comparison is and is not. It is a price comparison, not a like-for-like content comparison: the catalogues are not identical, some originals only exist on their home platform, and list prices change. What it does show is the scale of what a bundled subscription replaces.

The hidden costs people forget

• Equipment rental. Cable boxes and DVR fees quietly add $10–$25 a month.
• Regional sports fees. Often $10–$15 on top of the advertised price.
• Annual price rises. Nearly every major service raised prices in the last two years.
• Contract exit fees. Still common with traditional cable.

Where cable and the big apps still win

Honesty is more useful than a sales pitch. Traditional providers give you a single company to hold accountable, guaranteed 4K on their flagship channels, and exclusive originals you cannot get elsewhere. If your household watches two shows and one is an exclusive, an app subscription is probably better value than anything else. The arithmetic only turns decisively when you are paying for several services at once.
